We were in New York last night for the premiere of Discovery Health's "Diabetes - A Global Epidemic" last evening - we are covering this for diaTribe and DCU. It is truly a remarkable documentary and no matter how well you know diabetes, you will see things here you have never seen before.
The documentary shows Dr. Francine Kaufman, diabetes heroine to so many, chasing diabetes around the globe. We see her in Australia, Brazil, South Africa, India, the US, and Finland. To our surprise, one of our major takeaways is that much of our care in the US is under so much pressure even compared to some developing countries ... we have a very long way to go.
We think we need far more education in the US and that better reimbursement for both education and technology would help. We would love to send thoughts on this to industry and government. Will you help us by filling out this survey? Every one of our opinions counts. Please also send this to your friends who know you well - our petition is to get better reimbursement and we'd like everyone who knows diabetes and knows its impact on you to sign it.
Like Amy Tenderich says ... none of us asked for this. We're just trying to do our best and better coverage would sure help.
In the meantime, check out these blue, blue skies.
