I agree with your conclusion. The reality is probably somewhere in between. We know obesity is due to consumption of more calories than the body can use, and some may be consuming more than they need, while others are likely expending less than they consume. The real issue is what is necessary to restore a state of equilibrium, and unfortunately, the medical profession is looking for quick and easy fixes, rather than taking a hard look at the numerous factors that contribute to the problem.
